Gala May 31st, 2026 -CANCELLED
The Fort Saskatchewan Music Festival is proud to present the Judy Gabert Spirit Award, established through the generosity of Judy’s son, Scott Gabert, in loving memory of his mother.
This award is dedicated to the memory of Judy Gabert, whose life was defined by her devotion to community, her passion for education, her deep love of music, and her unwavering commitment to her family. It is presented to a student who embraces the joy, enthusiasm, and happiness that music can bring, reflecting the spirit Judy shared so generously with everyone around her.
As a pianist, Judy believed deeply in the power of music to inspire, connect, and uplift. Whether she was playing at home, organizing Christmas concerts, supporting school music programs, or encouraging others to explore their talents, she brought warmth, kindness, and meaning to every note.
The Fort Saskatchewan Music Festival held a special place in Judy’s heart. One of her greatest joys was attending performances and watching young musicians grow in confidence as they shared their gifts with others. She celebrated every performer—not only her own children, but all children—recognizing the courage, dedication, and joy that music fosters.
Judy devoted her career to education at Win Ferguson Elementary School, Lamont Elementary School, and Fort Saskatchewan High School. She was known for her patience, compassion, and remarkable ability to inspire students. Through her encouragement, countless young people developed confidence, curiosity, and a love of learning.
Her dedication extended well beyond the classroom through her involvement in church programs, Sunday School, and Vacation Bible School, where she continued to mentor and uplift young people with the same care and encouragement that defined her life.
Judy’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched and in the enduring belief that music is a source of joy, expression, and connection. The Judy Gabert Spirit Award honours that legacy by recognizing students who embody these values and who carry forward the enthusiasm, kindness, and love of music that Judy shared so freely.
With heartfelt gratitude, we thank Scott Gabert for establishing this award and ensuring that Judy’s remarkable spirit continues to inspire future generations of young musicians.
After careful consideration, the Fort Saskatchewan Music Festival has made the difficult decision to cancel the Gala Concert originally scheduled for Sunday, May 31, 2026, due to a lack of volunteer support.
Our festival is deeply grateful for the many dedicated volunteers who have helped make this tradition possible over the years. While we are disappointed that we are unable to present the Gala Concert this season, we remain hopeful that with renewed community involvement, we will be able to continue this valued tradition in future years.
All awards will be mailed to teachers in June for distribution to students. Our donors and sponsors will also continue to be recognized and featured on our social media platforms in appreciation of their generous support. We sincerely thank our participants, teachers, families, adjudicators, sponsors, volunteers, and supporters for their continued encouragement and support of the arts in our community.
